I’m here to tell you to get outside and enjoy the sun. Yes, in extreme excess, sunlight can potentially be harmful, but all-in-all the sun is good for you.
Sunlight can have both noticeable and unnoticeable health benefits. Check out these reasons to go outside and enjoy the sun.
Soak In The Vitamin D
Low vitamin D levels have been linked to heart disease, cancer, and elevated bad cholesterol levels. Healthy vitamin D levels have even been shown to reduce the risk of diabetes. Sunlight gives the body a boost of vitamin D.
During the spring and winter months, it is a good idea to take a vitamin D supplement. During the summer months, take advantage of the Sun and soak in the vitamin D.
The Sun Can Cheer You Up
Are you sometimes in a better mood when it is a bright, sunny day out? The sun can boost the body’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” hormone and can cause us to feel happier and more energized.
There is some truth to the “winter blues.” During the winter, we aren’t able to take in as much sunlight. This can cause Seasonal Affective Disorder and can cause depression and mood swings. Seasonal Affective Disorder has even been linked to bipolar disorders.
The sun make beta-endorphins within our bodies. Beta-endorphins cause us to feel happier and more alive. Boost your mood by soaking up the sun.
The Sun Can Lower The Risk Of Cancer
Believe it or not, the sun can actually lower the risk of cancer. While over exposure and constant sunburns can increase your risk for cancer, healthy amounts of sunlight decrease your risk for cancer.
Research has shown the risk of breast and colon cancers decrease with healthy sun exposure. The US National Cancer Institute concluded that people who have healthy exposure to sunlight are far less likely to die from breast and colon cancers. Decrease your risk of cancer by soaking in healthy amounts of sunlight.
